St. Mary, Star of the Sea Preschool is a part of St. Mary, Star of the Sea's Faith Community of parents, children, teachers, staff and clergy working together to provide quality Catholic Education. We believe that each child is a unique creation of God. We trust in the learning that emerges from children's creative play. We respect all children's natural curiosity about their world and their desire to be independent.

We are greatly influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education. We value the many ways young child learn, including music, drama, movement, literature, art, and language. Because every child has unique gifts and talents, it is our responsibility to celebrate and nurture those gifts. We appreciate and celebrate our community's rich diversity. We recognize parents as the primary educators and believe that the teacher's role is to prepare the environments, provide opportunities for exploration and discovery, and guide and extend each child's learning experience.

"The most effective kind of education is that  a child should play amongst beautiful things."
~ Plato (Greek philosopher)
